PRODUCT BACKLOG & VELOCITY

The product backlog indicates which stories of the software have not yet been realized. In other words, these items still have to be realized before the product is finished. This product backlog evolves over the duration of the project.

Each item of the product backlog gets an ‘initial’ estimate in story points. The product owner can project the remaining project effort needed by multiplying the cumulative story points of the product backlog with the last measured velocity.

The velocity is the measured speed at which the team worked during the last finished sprint.

TIME TRACKING & REPORTING

Effective time tracking reports allow you to do more accurate predictions on the total remaining effort. Monitor how much time is spent on a specific task, when, by whom and how many time is still needed to complete the task. Time tracking reports show at a glance the project’s current status and any deviation from original time estimates.

WORKLOG & BURN DOWN

At the completion of a story at the end of the day, each developer registers the following parameters in the project tracking system:

• How many hours did I work on this story?
• How many hours do I still have to work on this story to complete it?

Because each team member records these parameters, the system will automatically update the burn-down chart. So, this chart always shows the current state of progress.
